Enjoy images from the Rainforest and beyond, curtesy of ECODEV members and other volunteers.

This photos shows the challenges, needs and opportunities to work or visit our interest/pioneer region.

A biological hot spot, and a new found

tourism hub of the world, cross river Rain Forest.

Challenges, attractions, cultures and  communities.

ECODEV Office: Our Canadian member has been there, as can be seen above.

Agbokim Waterfalls obout 5km from our office. A place to be, particularly for nature lovers.

The road to paradise. Its not only wonderful but amazing to see this construction possible. The road is about 11 kilometers and is hosting world mountain race, since 2005. Indeed everything about Obudu ranch is so appealing.

A canopy walk way, what a nice way to view the rain forest canopy more closely. For nature lovers, its a unique opportunity, to take advantage of. You need to be there, to appreciate how funpacked it can be.Thanks too to the Cross River State Government.

Roasting the rainforest just for survival. Help stop this form of destruction. Its one of the factors responsible for deforestation.

Desperate loggers. As the CRS government announced suspension to logging, and travelling with sawn timber became illegal, loggers insist to perpetrate their illegalities by using river channels to transport their sown wood, mostly at night:ECODEV took them head on.

One of the three great apes found in this region, a mother Chimpanzee, with her baby. This primate is considared to have the closes characteristics to man.

The winding hills of Obudu Ranch Resort in Cross River State. A place where the temperate and tropical climates are experienced interchangebly, and a tourists delight. Here you see the forest, the grass land, the primates name it. Porpularly called, "the switzaland of Africa".You need to be there.

Desperate Farmers will leave no stone unturne if they resolve to farm in the old growth forest. They will ring the big trees and subject them to gradual weathering away so they get sunlight to penetrate their future farms. Loggers will take advantage of them and log for free. Making them feel the farmers are even getting a favour by that. Where then are the sustainable harvesters.

The German Government found ECODEV worthy, by sponsoring one of ECODEV members for a wind energy training in Germany. ECODEV member in mix of INWENT officials and other African participants, for the 2004/2005 training.

ECODEV earthday taken to the streets of Kassel-Germany.Campaign without borders.

Though our outdoor mushroom farm remains a big challenge, ECODEV Indoor Mushroom Farm in Nigeria is a huge success, and the benefiting communities are very excited. See photo above, of an indoor Oyster Mushroom farm in Osusuor-Npuor community in Cross River State-Nigeria.

The legacies of Colonial administrations, and their predisessors.Big machines used to clear cut forest for outside markets and replaced rainforest with gmelina plantations.

Famers here, are yet to use chemical fertilizers in the cultivation of the "king of crops" (Yam) and others like cassava, plantain bananas etc.But in the contrary, they dig deep into the rainforest for fertility. As they think of retreat, we need to equally educate them on the use of organic fertilizers, so as to guarantee good yield.

If you visit and you like kids, they dont mind hugging you and posing for a photo as can be seen above where Louise McCafferty is posing for a photo with the kids at Ekukunela community.

Miners for precious stones and minerals, also take their toll, digging even at the heart of the rain forest. Its sad but happens. And must end now.

Accelerated hunting made possible with the introduction of short guns, has led to the disappearance of most unique species of animals in the forest. The hunters display the dried skin of a once common specie of Antelop which today is rear.

The passion with which domestic animals are treated, as can be seen from the chicken house photo above, only proves how unsustainable hunting was alien to the peoples culture untill the comming of the short gun.

A unique cultural farming, that fence crops and not animals. The goats are allowed free and Farmers take the pains to fence crops to prevent them from being eaten by the Goats. Here farmers see animal cadging as mans inhumanity to other creature.

Cultural eco villages, farming in the backyard. An age long culture that stand the test of time, but at the brink of extinction

Ecodev member, recommending sustainable forestry solutions while in the 12th World Forestry Congress in Quebec Canada.

You can Immagine the amount of Carbondioxide that will be reduced if every one plants a tree every year as is the policy of ECODEV.

Forest architecture. Aunique feature in the rain forest. This Umbrella-like Ant house is designed and built by very little forest ants, and it is appreciated by many ecoturist and nature lovers.

Cable Car, in the obudu ranch. Its among the longest in the World. with this, you can go over and avoid the 11 kilometer winding road to the hills top. though the road is equally exciting. It adds to what brings tourist to Obudu ranch in Cross River State-Nigeria. Thanks to the State government.

This is only a challenge but not an opstacle, the motorcycle ridders will never give up. We wish as any one else that this become a thing of the past soon.

This is big challenge, waiting for a solution. we hope it become a thing of the past soon.

Celebration of Nature, culture and Life. Boat Regatta celebrated once every year except for any year with a bad omen(epidemic, disease or war).

When you visit, this is how you will be honoured. A traditiona ruller will, stand up from his Royal Chair and bless you. that is historic and unique, as well as shows how you are honoured and welcome.Above, chief Ogar Egbe of Osusuor-Nkpuor community CRS-Nigeria, blesses Mali Bein from Canada.

When you visit and you like kids, they dont mind possing by your tent, for a photo, sing and play with you. Its really fun.
